Meet the 2025 JFM Greenhouse Grant Recipients

Jamestown Farmers Market’s goal is to connect the community with fresh, local food – which as everyone in Chautauqua County knows, can be a big challenge in a region with long, cold winters and a relatively short growing season!

When Jamestown Farmers Market (JFM) applied for the New York State Farmer’s Market Resilency Grant in 2025, it earmarked a large majority of that funding towards helping local farms extend their growing seasons and increase their capacities through greenhouse construction or improvements. JFM’s greenhouse grant program awarded over $20,000 to farmers, and with additional bridge support from the Western New York, the organization was able to fully fund all of the grant applications.

Grant recipients included:

  • Abers Acres (Kennedy, NY) for the construction of two new high tunnels, expanding vegetable and strawberry production

  • Barnett’s Mushrooms (Falconer, NY) for an additional growing tent and supporting infrastructure, doubling production

  • Carlberg Farm (Falconer, NY) to run utilities including electric, gas, and water to an existing greenhouse for the use of fans, automatic curtain roll-ups, heaters, and irrigation, extending the growing season

  • Lantern’s Hollow (Kennedy, NY) to run power to existing greenhouses, allowing for the use of lights, fans and heat to extend the growing season

  • Maggitti Farms (Fredonia, NY) for the construction of a new high tunnel, extending the growing season

  • Southern Tier Microgreens (Falconer, NY) for additional racks and fans for expanding indoor production

JFM’s greenhouse grant program is a great example of how the market can serve not only as a means to increase access to local food, but as a force for positive change to our local food system. Grant funding is an investment in local farmers and producers that will make a lasting impact and help farmers meet growing demands for food in an ever-changing environment.
