Building a Community with St Luke’s Thrift Shop
St Luke’s Thrift Shop at 409 Pine Street sits across Potters Alley from the JFM offices in the St Luke’s Parish House. The small building and its dedicated staff of volunteers — St Luke’s parishioners as well as community members — turn donated clothing and housewares into over $25,000 in donations annually to local organizations that educate, feed and serve the local community.
Beginning this month, Jamestown Farmers Market is honored to be one of those local organizations. St Luke’s Thrift Shop will be recognized as the sponsor of Monday Night Cafe, our free community meal typically held on the last Monday of the month. We source local ingredients for this dinner, giving our participating farmers another avenue to sell their products while championing those foods to our community free of charge. It’s a win-win for both farmers and neighbors — and Thrift Shop support helps us cover the cost to keep this event free for all.
The Thrift Shop accepts donations from 9 AM to noon on Tuesdays, and is open for shopping Wednesday through Friday from 10 AM to 2 PM. The Thrift Shop also keeps some limited Saturday hours to coincide with Jamestown Farmers Market, giving shoppers another place to stop when they come to town. At the end of the seasons, the all-volunteer staff donate remaining items to various organizations that help people in need. Nothing goes to waste.
Watch the St Luke’s Thrift Shop page on Facebook for news about seasonal apparel, sales, special deals, and more.
All proceeds from the Thrift Shop, other than what is needed to maintain its building, are donated back to community organizations. The Thrift Shop team decides which programs it would like to support based on where it sees impact and need. We’re grateful for the financial support, but we are equally grateful for the vote of confidence — the simple awareness that our friends and neighbors across the alley believe in our mission. That kind of support can’t always be valued in dollars and cents.
We’re thrilled to recognize St Luke’s Thrift Shop as the sponsor of Monday Night Cafe now through February, and look forward to continuing our partnership in service to our community!
